Just before the weekend amazing news has reached us: Bertukan and Melat, two of EEF’s wonderful high school students, have been awarded full Mastercard scholarships at Earth University. After their graduation this summer, they will be jetting off to Costa Rica where they will study Agricultural Science. They were the only successful candidates from the whole of Ethiopia.
EARTH is a private, non-profit, international University and was created based on the conviction that the environmental and social challenges confronting the planet today can most effectively be resolved through education that promotes not only science, technology and entrepreneurship, but also essential human values, leadership and a lifelong commitment to social and environmental service.
Each year Earth University and the Mastercard Foundation offer some life-changing full scholarships (including flights and all cost of living) to students from African countries.
We at EEF are very lucky to have established a connection with this beautiful country and all it has to offer. In 2014, we came across Earth University who have a wonderful mission that we fully subscribe to: “Prepare leaders with ethical values to contribute to sustainable development and to construct a prosperous and just society”
Both Bertie and Melat had a rough upbringing and EEF are thrilled that, with the help of their sponsors, we have another MASSIVE success story to add to our long list. It looks like the long hours of preparation have paid off 🙂
Huge Congratulations to Bertie and Melat and all the best for an amazing future.
It is important tpo note that we cannot create these amazing stories without the help of student sponsors. We are currently still looking for sponsors of our Gambella Programme. At only £1.10 per day, it is now easier than ever to change a life like Bertie’s and Melat’s forever. Please help by sponsoring a student right now.
